Bangkok 8 conveys a sense of the inner and outer lives of a variety of denizens of Bangkok. Get past the bloody beginning and you’ll find a compelling read, often hilarious and constantly intriguing. Burdett’s later books may not hold up quite as well, but this one is highly recommended.
